Bay Area Rapid Transit

Communications and Community Engagement

Setting Tracks for the Future

Background

Formed in 1957, Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) is a public transit rail system that serves the San Francisco Peninsula, East Bay, and South Bay. Its network operates in five counties and includes 131 miles of track, 50 stations, and support for 405,000 trips on an average weekday. In 2021, Civic Edge was selected as part of a team of consultants to lead communications and community engagement for BART Metro 2030 and Beyond, a study to evaluate future service ideas as part of planned or underway upgrades, and Link 21, a program focused on connecting the regional passenger rail networks, including BART, with benefits extending to all 21 Northern California counties.
