Background 

San Francisco International Airport (SFO) is a department of the City and County of San Francisco and serves millions of travelers each year. Its operations and communications receive awards from the Airports Council International - North America and National Association of Telecommunications Officers and Advisors. In 2022, Civic Edge was selected to lead a team of marketing, communications, media, graphic design, and website development firms to support SFO in on-call communications, community relations, and marketing services.

Approach

Our team’s work with SFO coincided with the beginning of air travel returning to pre-pandemic levels. We took a safety-first approach, focusing on the ways SFO stood poised and ready to meet the increased demand so that passengers could face air travel with confidence, calm, and comfort. Existing initiatives like SFO Celebrates, which brings some of the City’s largest annual celebrations into the airport with special performances and interactive installations, were expanded to include partnerships with local community-based organizations and artists. Our team continues to work closely with SFO to anticipate the future, including innovative digital marketing opportunities and raising awareness of the airport’s innovative sustainability efforts.
